See your family face-to-face from anywhere. This guide covers FaceTime, Zoom, and Google Meet โ€” all explained simply, step by step.

Which App Should You Use?

There are three popular free video calling apps. Here's how to choose:

๐Ÿ“ฑ
FaceTime
iPhone & iPad only. Already installed. Best if everyone has Apple devices.
๐Ÿ’™
Zoom
Works on any device. Great for group calls. Free for up to 40 minutes.
๐ŸŸข
Google Meet
Works on any device. Free with no time limit. Easy to join by link.

๐Ÿ“ฑ FaceTime (iPhone or iPad)

FaceTime is built right into your iPhone or iPad โ€” no download needed.

  1. 1
Find FaceTime on your home screen. It has a green icon with a white video camera.
  2. 2
Tap the plus (+) button in the top-right corner.
  3. 3
Type the name, phone number, or email of the person you want to call. They must also have an Apple device (iPhone, iPad, or Mac).
  4. 4
Tap "Video" to start the video call. Their phone will ring and they'll answer.
  5. 5
To end the call, tap the red phone button at the bottom of the screen.
๐Ÿ’ก Tip: You can also start a FaceTime call directly from your Contacts app. Find the person, tap their name, and look for the FaceTime button.

๐Ÿ’™ Zoom (Any Device)

Zoom lets you call anyone โ€” even if they have a different type of phone or computer.

  1. 1
Download Zoom from the App Store (iPhone/iPad) or Google Play Store (Android). Search for "Zoom" and tap Install.
  2. 2
Open Zoom and tap "Sign Up" to create a free account, or "Sign In" if you have one already.
  3. 3
To join a call someone else started: Tap "Join," enter the Meeting ID number they gave you, and tap "Join."
  4. 4
To start your own call: Tap "New Meeting," then "Start a Meeting." Share the Meeting ID with the person you want to call.
  5. 5
Allow camera and microphone if asked โ€” tap "Allow" so they can see and hear you.
  6. 6
To end the call, tap the red "End" button.

๐ŸŸข Google Meet (Any Device)

Google Meet is especially easy because you can join by tapping a link โ€” no app required on a computer.

  1. 1
On a phone: Download "Google Meet" from the App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. 2
On a computer: Go to meet.google.com in your web browser. No download needed.
  3. 3
Sign in with your Google (Gmail) account.
  4. 4
To start a call: Tap "New Meeting" and share the link with your family by text or email.
  5. 5
